The banks located at airports generally offer exchange rates. Cash is king as traveler's checks continue to become less negotiable.

In large cities you can easily phone or email internationally. Cybercafés have boomed across Brazil, and are now open in most cities and airports. Connection speeds are tolerable to good. To phone internationally, the easiest and cheapest method is to use a payphone and have your
contact call you back. The Brazil country code is '55'.

-Health Tips For Your Amazon Trip!

Traveler's diarrhea (TD) is the most common ailment of visitors to Latin America. It's a good idea to ask your doctor for an antibiotic specifically for TD. Malaria can occasionally be a problem in the lowlands and jungles of Latin America. A vaccination for yellow fever is strongly recommended. The shots last for ten years but only take effect 10 days after inoculation, so plan ahead.
The tropical sun is very intense and it is very easy to burn or become dehydrated.
1) Be careful of the sun.
2) Drink lots of mineral water.
Consult your doctor for prescriptions and dosages. No immunizations are required by law to enter most Latin American countries. However, vaccinations/boosters are advised for the following:
* Yellow Fever
* Hepatitis A
* Typhoid
* Diphtheria
Consult your doctor for the most current recommended health precautions for the area you will be visiting during your Amazon tour. The Center for Disease Control is an excellent source for detailed information on preventing travel related illnesses.
